ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN

The City of West Kelowna’s Public Works Department is seeking a qualified Electrical Instrumentation Technician. This position will report to the Water Treatment Supervisor.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
The Electrical Instrumentation Technician will develop and conduct maintenance work on all devices connected to the digital control system (DCS), including system design and system control programming. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair online instrumentation related to level, pressure, temperature, flow, water quality, chemical dosing, pump control, VFD’s, PLCs, compressed air systems, UPS, back-up power generators, radio and cellular network SCADA communication systems. This position will also develop back-up programs for all systems and document systems to ensure that systems can be quickly reinstalled in the event of main system malfunction. The Electrical Instrumentation Technician will collaborate with other CWK departments on issues related to water supply, water treatment and watershed management, wastewater collections systems and other inter-departmental process and communications as well as oversee and monitor the performance of hired contractors. Able to work flexible hours if needed including shift work and emergency call-outs.
Required skills and qualifications:
Canadian Red Seal Inter–Provincial TQ as an Industrial Electrician, or Instrumentation
Certificate of Qualification for the design and installation of structured cabling systems
BC Safety Authority Field Safety Repairs, Class A or B
Current CEC Course
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in the field while under pressure and within time constraints
Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Access, Auto CAD, GIS Systems, etc.
Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
Good organizational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritize effectively
Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
Minimum of 5 years experience in electrical / electronic instrumentation repair
Recognized training in Industrial Control Programming
Good understanding and knowledge of process control systems
Experience with programming Delta V control system an asset
Water and wastewater system experience preferred
Electrical Operating Permit experience
