The Village of Cumberland invites applications for the full-time position of Public Works
Strategically located in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, the Village of
Cumberland (cumberland.ca) is a progressive and growing municipality known for its unique
mixture of heritage architecture, proximity to outstanding outdoor recreation and world-class
arts and music. Home to over 3800 residents, Cumberland is the youngest and fastest growing
municipality in the Comox Valley.
Currently the Village is in the process of completing construction of a new water treatment
facility and reservoir along with implementing expanded maintenance utility practices. The
Public Works Charge Hand is a key member in assisting with the expanding needs of our
organization and the community, and the Village of Cumberland is seeking a knowledgeable
and enthusiastic individual to fill this role.
The Charge Hand position, under the direction of the Public Works Foreman, is responsible for
assisting with organizing the safe and efficient day-to-day operations of the Public Works
department. This position assists with the supervision of crew members; including planning,
scheduling, monitoring, and reporting on tasks and projects that have been assigned,
processing invoices, assisting with yearly operations and capital budgeting, developing safe
work procedures, and building effecting working relationships both internal and external to the
The ideal candidate will have seven years of progressive experience in the repair and
maintenance of municipal infrastructure along with two years of supervisory experience with a
focus on streets and roads. This is a Union position and subject to the Collective Agreement
