SWEEPER OPERATOR
(Two Permanent Full Time Positions)

The District of Saanich's Engineering Department is seeking two self-motivated Sweeper Operators to join the Solid Waste Services Team. The successful candidates will perform work that involves the safe operation and regular day-to-day maintenance of a street sweeper. The Sweeper Operator plays an active role in keeping our streets, cycling facilities and community clean and free of debris; responds to complaint driven calls for service; is a key contributor to the districts winter maintenance program performing salting, sanding, ploughing or brining; and performs other related duties as and when required. The successful candidates will work closely with the Solid Waste Services staff on day-to-day activities and with Street Operations staff during all winter maintenance activities as well as customer service from internal and external contacts.

Requirements include:

• Grade 12 or equivalent;
• One year experience street sweeping within a public road network environment and cycling facilities;
• Fork lift training certification (an asset);
• Front end back hoe/loader training certification (an asset);
• Spill responder training certification (an asset);
• Snow and ice control training certification (an asset);
• A valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with airbrake endorsement;
• Experience in Snow and Ice operations (ploughing/salting/sanding/ brining);
• Interpretation of weather forecast; and
• Training and experience as an equipment operator on described equipment.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday 4:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Wednesday to Sunday 4:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday to Wednesday 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (40 hours per week).

These are C.U.P.E. Local 2011 positions with a wage of $35.82 per hour and an excellent benefits package.
