Facility Maintenance Worker - Electrician

Regular Full Time, 40 hours per week

The Engineering & Operations Department, Engineering Division, seeks an individual with outstanding work ethic and a safety-first attitude to join their team. The Facility Maintenance Worker - Electrician is responsible for electrical maintenance, repair, alterations, and installations of various civic facilities. The work includes preventative maintenance tasks of considerable variety as well as repairs, which are self-initiated, or results from user complaints. The Facilities Maintenance Worker - Electrician will be responsible for overseeing the work of electrical contractors.

Requirements:

• Possession of a valid Journeyman Electrician Certification (Provincial or Interprovincial).
• Field Safety Representative (FSR) – Certificate of Qualification – Class B.
• Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, tools, and equipment used in building support services, maintenance and repair work including but not limited to painting, carpentry, plumbing.
• Ability to use and provide instruction on the safe use of electrical equipment and tools.
• Ability to diagnose electrical defects and provide advice & recommendations to management.
• Ability to interpret schematic drawings and blueprints.
• Ability to effectively communicate, verbal and written, and demonstrate excellent listening skills.
• Ability to deal tactfully with the public in a courteous, professional, and effective manner.
• Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team environment with a safety-first attitude.
• Experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, infrastructure, and associated control systems; experience with civil facilities is considered an asset.
• Experience interpreting and applying safety precautions and practices associated with electrical work.
• Experience managing the electrical component of construction and maintenance projects.
• Experience resolving Arc-Flash hazards related to electrical equipment.
• Highly motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
• Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license.

The annual salary of this unionized position is $80,187 (2021 rates) with comprehensive benefits offered. The regular working hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm the sucessful candidates must be willing & avaliable to be part of a rotating after-hours emerengcy response team.
