CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION – WORKSHOP

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Learn from an expert with more than 35 years of experience in the construction management industry in this virtual course. This program brings the APWA Construction Inspection Manual to life along with the help of an expert instructor. It is designed for construction inspectors of various experience levels looking to learn more about all facets of public project inspection, including the roles and responsibilities of an inspector, legal/risk management and regulatory issues, documentation and communication, and project close-out. This unique course combines the benefits of an in-person workshop with the convenience of online learning.

This course will run for three weeks and will include sixteen instructional hours. Each class session will be two hours in duration, allowing for instructor interactions, peer networking, and online discussions.

After completing this course, participants will be better able to:

  1. Explain the purpose, responsibilities, and duties of an inspector.
  2. Identify the elements involved in construction inspection (communication, documentation, risk management, legal, planning, regulations, etc.)
  3. Identify and address risk management and various proper installation concerns.

Live instruction will take place virtually on the following dates for the three weeks will be two hours each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the first two weeks, and Tuesday and Wednesday for the last week. The schedule is as follows:

STEPPING INTO LEADERSHIP – WORKSHOP

Date and time: September 27th, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am PST – Virtual

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

We hear about how vital self-awareness is in leadership, but how do you start to develop self-awareness? And how does self-awareness help lead effectively? These fundamental questions need answers if we want to become highly effective leaders.

In this 90-minute workshop, we will explore the grassroots of self-awareness using straightforward models that open new conversations about self-awareness and the ways of being a leader.

At the end of this 90-minute workshop, you will:

  • Be able to locate where you are leading from at any moment
  • Have a solid foundation to strengthen self-awareness
  • Recognize the power of choice as it relates to your leadership
  • Understand the importance of taking radical responsibility
  • Actively create a ‘dramaless’ environment and become results-oriented

The session will be 90-minutes and happen online via Zoom to increase access to the PWABC Membership and will include:

  • Interactive facilitation style.
  • Slide show presentation to be shared with participants.
  • Worksheets to support continued learning after the session to participants.

Registration Fees:

$99.00 plus GST per PWABC Member, and $119.00 plus GST per Non-Members (maximum 20 participants)

FLUSH TRUCK OPERATIONS COURSE

Date and time: September 19th and 20th, 2022, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm PST

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Public Works Association of B.C. is pleased to introduce Safe Jet BC! Safe Jet BC is an EOCP recognized training provider for all levels of Flush Truck Operators.  Safe Jet BC will be in Penticton B.C. on September 19th and 20th to provide the following two day training opportunity, Safe Jetting Storm/Sanitary Infrastructure (Course Number: 8047, CEU’s: 0.60), Safe Jetting Storm/Sanitary Practical Field Application (Course Number: 8142, CEU’s 0.60).

The two day course will educate operators on the safe and efficient operation of jetting equipment used to clean, repair and maintain storm and sanitary sewer lines.  The courses include information on operating procedures, everyday problems encountered, how to diagnose, assess and resolve issues in pipelines, hydraulics in sanitary and storm sewer pipes as well as practical and hands on demonstrations of jetting equipment used in municipal operations.  Operators will understand cleaning techniques, equipment selection and general storm and sanitary operational improvements.  Instructor Paul Bains currently working at Public Works Engineering for The District of Saanich, has over 37 years of experience in the field and has been teaching for the last two years across Vancouver Island and the mainland.

AGENDA:

Day 1 – Course 1 – 0.60 C.E.U’s

Topic:  Definitions / Objective:  Operator will recognize critical components required in jetting
Topic:  Operating Procedures / Objective:  Thrust loads for different pressures and volumes
Topic:  Sanitary/Storm Mainlines / Objective:  Mainline maintenance and cleaning procedures
Topic:  Safety Awareness / Objective:  Hazard assessment / policies and procedures

Day 2 – Course 2 – 0.60 C.E.U’s

Topic:  Safe Jetting Overview / Objective:  Review of jetting course / classroom instruction
Topic:  Nozzle Demonstration / Objective:  Field Demo – different nozzle applications for various work required
Topic:  Sanitary Sewer Main Field Jetting Applications / Objective:  Identify various methods / procedures in routine jetting applications
Topic:  Storm Drain Main Field Jetting Applications / Objective:  Identify various methods / procedures in routine jetting applications

Registration Fees:

$600.00 plus GST per student (maximum 20 participants)

Hello again PWABC members and friends!

I hope this update finds you doing well and getting excited about transitioning into some summer activities!  Hopefully you will all have an opportunity for a little bit of fun in the sun while you enjoy some of the amazing opportunities that our wonderful Province has to offer.  On behalf of our whole Board, the PWABC wishes you a safe and enjoyable summer of 2022.

Q2 has proven to be a very busy quarter for our team at the PWABC.  First of all, and in case you haven’t already seen or heard about it, our Chapter is thrilled to be partnering once again with the BC Municipal Safety Association to offer the 4th Joint Annual Conference & Tradeshow.  This year the in-person event will be hosted at the beautiful Sheraton Wall Center in downtown Vancouver on October 4th and 5th.  The technical agenda has been set and our amazing sponsors and vendors are rolling in to provide an awesome tradeshow experience, so go to our website at www.pwabc.ca to register now!!
