PWABC Q3 2021 – President’s Message

,

Hello again PWABC Members and friends!

Hard to believe that we are already through Q3 of 2021, where has the year gone!!??

At the time of writing this, we just finished our 3rd Joint Annual (virtual) Conference with the British Columbia Municipal Safety Association!  I hope that many of you had the chance to take part in the virtual conference, and that you found the platform and educational streams both interesting and engaging!

I’d like to take this opportunity to send a sincere thank you to the BCMSA, especially Christine Zielke, for her and all of her organization’s time and effort in putting together a great virtual experience for both of our Associations.  I’d also like to recognize both Len Robson of the City of Penticton, and Kyle vanVeen of the City of Coquitlam for supporting our Chapter in sorting through and building a great line up of relevant and interesting public works sessions.  Great job to everyone involved!

Did you get the chance to participate in our recent Winter Maintenance Operator or Winter Maintenance Supervisor certificate program?  If so, we’d love to hear your feedback!  So drop us a line today at executivedirector@pwabc.ca and tell us what you thought of the on-line certificate program.  If you missed it, don’t worry, we are already working on plans to offer these programs once again in 2022.  Head over to our website today at www.pwabc.ca to learn more about some of our other upcoming training opportunities as well!

Did you see our recent Expression of Interest?  Well, it’s the time of the year where we are starting to look towards 2022 and the composition of our Board.  The Public Works Association of British Columbia is looking for new members to join our board for a two year term beginning in January of 2022.  With a few terms that will be expiring at the end of 2021 we are looking for dedicated public works professionals with a passion for the industry, that have some volunteer capacity, to submit their expression of interest (ie: covering letter and resume) to executivedirector@pwabc.ca by October 31st, 2021 for review and consideration by our Board Member Selection Committee.

Last, but certainly not least, I wanted to remind everybody about the PWABC’s Annual Awards.  Now is the time to get your nominations in!  Our Awards Committee is very excited for this year’s review process, and we strongly encourage you to consider an application today.  Head to www.pwabc.ca for more details and make sure to get your nominations submitted on or before November 15th!

Thank you,

Chris Anderson, AScT, CPWP-M
