PWABC Q4 2022 – President’s Message

,

First off, it was great to see that our Executive had the support from our various employers to attend PWX2022 in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Our Executive team enjoyed a great experience at APWA’s national conference.  Whether it be in committee meetings, Council of Chapters meetings, the amazing trade show, or the fantastic presentations, PWX did not disappoint and I’m proud to say that our BC Chapter had our strongest showing at that national level in years.

Less than a month later, the PWABC was once again back in person with our amazing joint partner, the BC Municipal Safety Association, to deliver the 4th Joint Annual Conference in Vancouver.  This proved to be an excellent, return to in-person, conference that I hope you had the opportunity to join.  It was so great to reconnect with so many of the public works and safety professionals from our province in a conference setting once again.  On behalf of our Board I’d like to thank all of the event sponsors, those that helped bring this event together, the speakers, and all of the tradeshow vendors for making the 2022 event a huge success!  Don’t forget to mark you calendars now for the 2023 5th Joint Annual Conference as we return to the beautiful City of Penticton on September 26 & 27.

As we move into and begin 2023, I want to recognize our Chapter’s next President, Meryl Heinz from the City of Nanaimo.  Meryl has been an active Board and Executive member for a number of years now and she will become our Chapter’s first ever female President!  Congratulations Meryl, the PWABC is in great hands under your leadership.  Along those lines, and given that it is now my turn to move into the role of Past-President, it is unfortunately also time to say goodbye and a heartfelt thank you to Scott Lamont of the City of Rossland.  Scott’s calm demeanor and sense of humor will be missed, good luck in your future endeavors.  With these changes comes opportunity, and I am excited to welcome existing Board member at large Alex Christensen of WSP to the Executive team and Ryan Adams from the City of Surrey as our Chapter’s newest Board member at large.

Lastly, don’t forget to head to our website at www.pwabc.ca to learn more about our upcoming training opportunities, to post for or look for a job, and much more!

All the best,

Chris Anderson, AScT, CPWP-M

PWABC 21/22 President, 2023 Past President
